Filler Lamia Transition Virus

So the people have spoken! and world info it is. So I present to you the first of a couple of pages on the Lamia Transition Virus AKA Vampires in Shifters. Its big, and I’ll be uploading a higher quality version than this to my DA. If you are having trouble reading it here, you can DL it there for reading. It is kind of huge.

This is written as a secret report to the government. The government in Shifters is a bit of an underdog and excluded from the Veil as much as they can get away with. However, the government doesn’t like that very much and thus employs intelligence agents to gather intel on Veil matters. The government is aware of the Veil’s existence and the creatures within it, but are constantly struggling to pry the secrets of their existence and thus learning to control these beings for their own ends.

I hope this helps people understand the vampire infection more and I know will generate a lot of questions no doubt. There IS more coming in the second part of this (possibly third).  If you have an questions, do feel free to ask here or in the forums!

And lastly – Happy Thanksgiving to all the American peeps! I’m Canadian and we already had our thanksgiving, but happy turkeyday to all of you folks.

Okay, so here’s the news thus far.

We’ve gotten word from the repair guys that Asus expects to have the machine back hopefully by the end of November. If this is the case, huzzah!. We’ll be back in business come December. However, until then, I’m trying to get a sense of what you all would like to see in the meanwhile.

To that end, there is a poll to the right of this post, please put your input there, and if you have any other ideas or specifics to add, please comment below. So like, if you want a specific character profile, or want details on a particular race or location, leave a comment!

Sorry this has gone on for so long, but hopefully we can pull off those left over bonus updates and catch up a bit in Dec.

Shifters Benefit Ferrah And Pookie

Okay, here’s the update for those of you who don’t check the forums.
Last week I sprained my shoulder really badly, mucked up my right side for several days. I couldn’t even move. It sucked. I’m better now though.

Mysti/Che, our esteemed colorist’s computer’s graphics card went tits up. The good news is that it is covered under warranty. The BAD news is that her computer has to be sent back to the manufacturer for repairs. Which as you all know can take months to resolve. I have lent her an old laptop, but we haven’t figured out yet if its got enough juice left in it to run everything she needs to to color shiffters. We’re working on it.

So I’m still doing filler and backlogging lineart of actual pages for when she gets her computer back. This was inspired by one of the pet suggestions, I believe the dogpark one. And that actually spawned several ideas.

If you don’t know, in the original Shifters, Ferrah has a dog. She still has a dog, although you haven’t seen him in the redux officially yet, but here’s the Redux of Pookie. Ferrah’s dog.  In the original shifters he didn’t have a specific breed, but in the Redux he’s a Welsh Pembroke Corgi.

Shifters can actually understand animals that they share a bond with. Its not really like.. human language exactly, but they can communicate. I just thought this would be amusing. Also, I really want a corgi.

The line art in this one is actually pretty much what the art looks like when Chi gets it. So you can see how much work she really does.

Okay, sorry guys. Che’s computer is still in the shop, and I’ve come down with the plague now. I’m still working on lineart as I can (between cleaning up the snotpocalypse sneezes and hacking up a lung), so I’m afraid we’re still on hold for the moment as far as story pages go. On the plus side, when Che gets her computer back, we’ll have a nice backlog of art, so we can do the bonus pages. Unfortunately there’s no solid ETA on repairs, so we’re as much in the waiting game/hold pattern as you guys are. We’re very sorry!

I will work on a Halloween goodie for you all however while we’re waiting when I’m feeling a bit better.

But here’s your chance to participate in the filler I’m going to do while we wait for them to voodoo the demons from Che’s laptop.

I’m going to start doing “Shifter Benefits” again. This was a popular filler back in the day, so I thought I’d whip together quick sketches illustrating them like I used to. BUT HERE”S WHERE YOU COME IN.

Submit a Shifter Benefit, here in the comments or in the forums. I’ll go through them on Monday Oct 15 and pick the top two suggestions and draw them. Then people can resubmit ideas, and so on.

A Shifter benefit should be a sort of unexpected side bonus to being a shifter. If its species specific (like say wolf, cat, or bear) say for which character it applies. So your suggestion should be like so:

Kat – Benefit – Can easily defeat any packaging.

You can submit as many as you like, there’s no limit. I’ll pick from whatever I get before Monday for the next one.

Thanks to Che for this wonderful picture of Ferrah and Kat in post-apocalyptic garb searching for the convention. Fortunately for Che, I’ve got a slightly better direction sense to find the hotel. Slightly.

The con we are referring to of course is V-con! BC’s premier and oldest sci-fi and fantasy convention happening this weekend (Sept 28-30) at the Sheraton Vancouver Guildford Hotel (in Surrey, B.C.)! This is very much more along the lines of an old school hard sci-fi type event. Last year they had a very nifty selection of stuff in their dealers room. Do come check it out, and see how well YOU would fare in the apocalypse! So if you are going to be up towards Vancouver, consider checking this event out!

If you are coming over the Port Mann bridge though, or considering it, you might want to check out this page and find an alternate route.

But yes, sorry that there’s been a lot of filler this chapter, but con season will be over soon! The only hump after this is that I’ve been selected for Jury Duty, and I don’t know what’s going on there until I get there, and that’s next week. I’m going to try to get a page or two inked up for Che, but I may not be able to post them depending on where I am and what I’m permitted to do. We’ll see.

As a complete side note is there anyone here who’s on Secondlife and happens to enjoy Japanese horror? I’ve been working on an RP there, called the House of the Crimson Wings, and I’d like to do a halloween event, but I need peeps! Sorry this is a bit late guys, still working around Che’s schedule and I’ve been sick, so things kinda got a little out of sorts. Next week could see an interruption in schedule as well as it is a con week, and I’m still sick so I’m not sure if we can get the panel done and colored on time for next week. We’ll see. Just be warned.

Ferrah has returned on the scene and noticed our unlikely allies plotting pain upon her. This can’t end well.

So here is your Wed update, and X is annoyed because Karma wants to do the right thing… or does he? COULD HE HAVE A CUNNING PLAN?? I think so. Vampires don’t just do NICE things. or suddenly admit they’ve been bad for NO REASON. Or do they? Speculate.

So, if you haven’t noticed, there are polls now on the site. I’ll be asking random questions to find out stuff. Whatever comes into my brain really. This last little while I’ve been curious to know how new you are to Shifters. I’ve had a lot of requests recently for links to the old Shifters. So I have to ask, would downloadable PDFs of the OLD shifters stuff be something you all would want to see?

Also Vcon is coming up, and Mysti and I will be there again this year with all sorts of goodies like buttons, keychains, art prints/posters, kitty ears and more. X is still freaking.

So summer comes to a close and its back to school for many of you I’m sure. I work in one, so I never really left. But work is substantially different than being a student. Sometimes I miss being a student, I had more free time.

Going to do what I can to try and get the bonus pages done for this month, but I’ve still got one more Con to do this year, and that’s Vcon! Happening in Burnaby BC from September 28-30. Sci-fi and and post-apocalyptic goodness!

Otherwise, I’ll just let you guys enjoy the page.

Aaaand we’re back. Cos & Effect was FREAKING AMAZING. As usual IRL Events knows how to put on quite the show. I’ll do a full con report later on Evilspacecat.com, but right now I’m still in recovery mode.

I’ve also finished Bloodbath. I know a lot of you were waiting to see this. If you are new, this is a re-do of an old artwork that I did in 2002. Check out the comparison. Amazing, no? It will be available as a wallpaper later, but as a premium one. I just gotta get it sized and packaged for downloading.

I’m taking pre-orders for 11×17 prints of this poster on the EvilSpaceCat store.
